What distance actually changes in a schedule
It affects three things. The start time, because a crew arriving from a distance cannot begin at the same moment as one already nearby. The response time for anything unplanned, which is measured in hours rather than minutes. And the efficiency of short attendances, since a twenty minute task at the end of a long trip is expensive in a way that is not obvious from the task itself.
None of these prevents a good arrangement, but they shape it. Longer, less frequent attendances are more efficient than short frequent ones. Periodic work grouped into a single visit beats several trips. A realistic response commitment is more useful than an optimistic one, because a client can plan around four hours and cannot plan around a promise that fails. A facility manager can build a workable arrangement around any of these constraints once they are stated, and cannot build one around a proposal that leaves them out.
